MacInnes decendent |
|
Hello from a MacInnes decendent. My grandmother was Jean Cooper MacInnes Turner and was born in Scotland. She came over to the US when she was about 5. She was a devoted MacInnes for all her life. Of all my immigrant grandparents or great grandparents, she was the most proud of her heritage. |

| I do a lot of Coll research and just MIGHT be able to help. I visit the island as often as possible and have been in touch with other McInnes/Coll descendants. I am 'struggling' initially with your Q, mainly because of the many McInnes spelling variations. What is the source of your 1876 Totamor birth? |

Hello |
|
As an Austin, I was naturaly born into the Keith clan. Howver, On one bloodline from my grandmothers side, I traced my heritage back to the year of 1090 in Scotland. If my research is correct, I'm related to an "Earl of Angus, Dufugan who was born in that year - 1090. Then his son, (I think) Earl of Angus, Gillbride born in the year 1118? But I'm not sure if that is completely correct. Just the same, it seems that no matter which bloodline I trace back, they all started somewhere in Scotland. |

McInnes family tree search |
My mother was Edith McInnes, born in Goole Yorkshire 1926.
I was at Kilchrist Church on the Isle of Skye and found grave stones with the McInnes name and this has set me on the long path to trace my McInnes family.
I have traced her family through Crieff Scotland in the late 1800's and would welcome any additional information if anyone has some.
I am also trying to trace the McInnes family I found on Skye so any info from there most welcome |

I have come across two similar stories of the dispersal of McMasters by the McLeans, one in the Mclean and other histories dating the event around 1432 and in the MacInnes history putting it at around 1335. Does anyone know whether these are mutually exclusive or which is the correct date and story.
Have tramped around Ardgour in the past and hope to do so again soon armed with a list of additional things to seek out.

Relatives in Bowmore, Islay |
Jane MacInnes, born in Bowmore, Islay 1838, is my great grandmother.
I would very much like to contact anyone in North America who might be related.
In the 1960's a Paul MacInnes, who had an engineering business in Rochester, NY, visited Bowmore. The Business is still operating with the MacInnes name in Rochester but Paul sold it to the current owner's Father and they had no contact. I interpolate that Paul was my Fathers generation (born 1897). |

As I've searched for info about our clan (much before the internet) I've came across two tartens,,,the green one shown on this site,,,,,,, and a red one,,, is there two branches of the clan? Anyway, it's wonderful to know so many that share my name and heritage. |

McGinnis |
So, I am adopted but have always been linked with my birth mother and never my birth father but my adoptive mom says his last name is McKinley or something like that. But my Biological father had the name of McGinnis. Today, I went to the Highland games located in Northeast Florida and found out that my grandfather's last name is traced to the MacInnes. I'm really excited about all this and plan to trace down more family with this discovery. Now all I have to get is to find my birth father and track down that bloodline. |

Going Home for a visit |
|
We are very excited that in July 2010 we are going to Iona for a visit almost 150 years after our great great grandfather John Macinnes left with his wife and family to start a new life in Australia. There are many descendants in Australia from this family and hopefully we will be able to make contact with our distant cousins who still live on Iona. We will be touring around other parts of Scotland too. Can't wait! |

Angus Family Name |
|
My maternal grandfather was William Warren Angus (1878-1961). Several people have his ancestry linked back to Donegal Ireland and Galloway Scotland but with an interesting twist. The family name Ewing is used in place of Angus in several family trees and yet there is no explanation for this. Does anyone have a clue if Ewing is a derivation of Angus as is MacInnes? This site has awesome information by the way! Thanks very much!! |

In the movie "Chariots of Fire" (1981) i always loved the scene of Eric Liddell (main character) participating in the race that takes place at a Scottish Games. Since watching that movie as a child i always wanted to participate in the races that i thought were held at Scottish Games. I have tried to find information on if the games still have races, but from what i have found, that is something not done. If someone knows anything about races being held at the games please help me find information on that. Thankyou |

Hello!
I was married to Andrew Hunter McInnes & have 2 children who still bear the name, a son Andrew Jason and a daughter Nadine. My daughter has been researching the family tree and hopes one day to visit Scotland again. Her grandmother was formerly McCrae and her grandfather was also Andrew Hunter. They emigrated to South Africa sometime around 1953 and never visited Scotland again! My present husband and I tour Scotland every year during September and October. We are so sorry not to be able to be at the 2009 Homecoming but wish you all every best wish for a successful gathering!
Kind regards

By the time he was a prisoner he fell in love with a daughter of this landowner and soon after he married her. That is all about the story, many details have been lost. I don't know where was he borned or even his birth name, nor his date of birth or death. If anyone knows something concerning this thread I pray you let me know.
Greetings for all of you!!!!!! And I wish you a Happy New Year!!!!!!!

April 2009 |
My maiden name is McInnis, which oral stories handed down tell that ancestor(s) left Scotland for Ireland, changed Mac to Mc (?), then someone headed to Halifax at the turn of 20C, migrated to Eastport Maine area, when his mother died, his grandmother came from Ireland to raise my grandfather John Earle McInnis (lifelong Maine Central RR), his sister Louise (married a Stevenson), his brother William Walter (lived his life as a tramp and traveled the world in the 30s-40s), and ? I think there were other siblings...
--- I will be visiting a friend in Essex UK, for a couple of weeks in early April, and I am toying with a quick visit to Scotland to say, at least, Ive been to the motherland! Any suggestions for where to go, McInnis-wise, will be appreciated...
-- Is there one area vs. another as a good start? Any events in April worth attending? Any recommendation re: fly or train (RT) from London? Is hiring a car essential once I get there? Can I rely, as I usually do, on finding a B&B through travel bureaus upon arrival? (I dont like to book accommodations in advance; much more fun to see what unfolds as I go along!)
-- I know I shall have to return one day for a longer visit... but thought it might be fun to take a few days. No definitive plans as yet, but that's my thinking.
== Any help greatly appreciated.
Excelsior! Jean |

Proud to a Scot and a McInnes |
Hello to all. I've long wanted to find out more about my ancestral roots and if any one can help it would be appreciated.
I was born 12th April 1962 to Donald Campbell McInnes and Moira Kerr Needham of Glasgow. Unfortunately, some would say, south of the border in Stroud Glouscester England.
I was raised in Govan Glasgoe till 8 years old and after the death of my father we left Scotland and came to South Africa.
Even now I don't relate all that well to englishmen. Don't know why.
Any how it's great to see that as a clan we are obviously thriving although we are so far from home. |

Looking into my heritage |
|
I am considering a tatoo for my mid life crisis, (per my daughter) and wanted something of meaning. I was researching clan and clan symbols when I came upon this webpage. I have always had a stong intrest in the past, history, and my geneology. My father was born in Nova Scotia, Canada and migrated to the US in the 1950's. He is the youngest son of Archibald MacInnis of I believe Queensville, NS. His mothers name I believe is Jessie Church. He was the youngest of 9 children all of who have passed now. My dads name was Kenneth Wayne MacInnis, he had two brothers, Neil, and Morton. Dad passed in '99 at the age of 66. My mother Mary Wells MacInnis is of Welsh and German desent. |

Just returned from Scotlan |
My husband surprised me with a trip to Scotland for our wedding anniversary and we just returned. My three boys were there at the same time for the International Scottish Jamborette at Blair Atholl.
What an amazing trip for all of us. It was hard to force ourselves to come home. We saw many beautiful places but even better, made some wonderful new friends.
I knew only a little about the name Angus when we left and bought a book while there. I'm now a little clearer about the Angus relationaship to MacInnes but was wondering if all with the last name of Angus are from the MacInnes clan and if not, how do we know if we are. I mistakenly made the assumptions that the Anguses were from County Angus but I see that the MacInnes Clan is from the other side of the country.
One other thing- this is about tartans. Say you are an Angus from the MacInnes clan, do you wear the MacInnes tartan or the Angus tartan. My sister in law bought us all Angus tartan pieces years ago but I'm now wondering if that is a county of Angus tartan.
Thanks for your help. Alyson |

Malcolm McInnes |
|
Hi All - Found this site while searching for information about my husbands great grandfather Malcolm McInnes. Born Island of Skye about 1848 came to New Zealand about 1866. Not sure how he got here as I can't find him on any shipping lists. He had a sister Margaret who married a Stewart. Margaret at one time lived at Maryhill Road, Glasgow. Malcolm married Elizabeth Phillips in 1878 and they had 8 children. John, Hannah Maria, Ronald, Jeanette, Margaret, Malcolm, Alexander and Daisy. In 1898 Elizabeth left Malcolm and went to Sydney with a Walter Scott and they had 2 children Olive born about 1900 and Iris born about 1902. Elizabeth and Walter married in 1913. Elizabeth died in 1828 and is buried in the Woronora Cemetery, Sydney. Macolm's parents names were John and Margaret nee McDonald and Elizabeth's (who I believe was born in Birmingham) parents were John Phillips and Hannah Maria nee Ridgeway. I cannot trace the family any further back than this so anyone out there who can help I would love to hear from. So glad I found this cool site. |

Greetings Clansmen |
Hello from the San Francisco/Bay Area fellow Clansmen and women!
I come to you through my mother, Noreen Lorraine MacInnes, through her Canadian father, John Gordon MacInnes - originally from Ontario province. His father was a fisherman, and unfortunately fell overboard and drowned in one of the American Great Lakes when John was only 8, around 1910. He subsequently moved with his mother and siblings, Jean and Archibald, to California in the 1920s.
I look forward to joining the Clan very soon!
All the best,
Bill |

Daniel Gordon McInnis |
|
I am descended from Alexander McInnis, b 1805 Scotland, died 1890 Prince Edward Island. His son William, b 1856 PEI, died 1908, Quincy MA, was my great grandfather. I am looking for anyone with knowledge of Williams son Daniel Gordon who was born Jan 17 1883, PEI and died Feb 2 1960 I believe in New York State. I know Daniels wife's name was Esther and they had 5 children. According to my grandmothers address book, these children could be living/lived in Connecticut, Pennsylvania or New York State. Names could be: Daniel Gordon Jr., Kenneth D, Clinton M, Joy and Esther, but am very unsure. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Our family genealogy is listed on tribalpages.com. |

Great Site! |

This is a great site. We just got back from a visit in Scotland in May (my ancestry goes back to the Glasgow/Renfrew area in Scotland, through the Glasgow/Renfrew area in the Ottawa Valley in Ontario, Canada). We visited many castles, but didn't learn about this site until we got back. Rats! I guess we'll have to plan another trip, but it will be a bit bittersweet if we can't actually go into Kinlochaline Castle. |

McGinnis - Irish or Scottish |
Hello, I am originally from Ohio. I have been told my whole life that I am of Irish blood...now after doing some research I am not so sure. However, my father and his brother are the oldest (late 40s) surviving members of my branch on the McGinnis family tree. If any one knows of the history with the McGinnis name in Ohio, please contact me. Little information is better than none at all.
P.S. - There seems to be a large McGinnis population in Colorado Springs as well.
Thanks,
Steve McGinnis |

My Father and I have been researching our irish roots and have found the possibility of there being a connection between the Irish McCann and the Scottish MacInnes. We wanted to know if you have any information you could give us, or if you could just confirm that the McCanns in Scotland were/are a part of the Clan MacInnes.
Thank you,

Looking for Connections and Answers |
Hi, I've posted on here before, and I'm looking to find out if a) The spelling of my name is of direct decent of the MacInnes Clan (As stupid as that question is - my father stated that there is no link) and secondly, WHERE I could find further information about the travels of the Clan MacInnes overtime... I have looked at a Convict Site here in Hobart called Port Arthur. There were only two 'McInnes' that came over and both were with the King's Army and Navy - none convicts - but there were several MacInnes across all fields. I'm trying to figure out where I can find this information so I can tell my 2 year old son when he grows up. Thanks.

castle visit |
About fifteen years ago I visited Morvern, with a friend, in hopes of visiting the then uninhabited Kinlochaline tower [pre renovation] Built mid 1500's.
I was directed to one of the cottages on the lochside and told to ask for Dolly.
She was unfortunately in hospital but her son gave me the key and we had the tower to ourselves for an afternoon.
I imagine that the new owners have built over the stains of boiling tar which would be poured from the roof to repel attackers. I remember the enormous fireplace, the narrow stone spiral staircase and the slits in the ten foot thick walls for arrows.
We made a video of our visit.
I look forward to visiting the new castle in all its refurbished glory.
I hope to meet some modern day McInnes's through this great site.
Cheers all.

MacAounghais? |
I am a 9th generation decendant of Charles McKinniss and Rachel Carr. He was born in Scotland in 1722 and was impressed into the British army in 1744.
He fought in the battle of Culledon in 1745 and was wounded seriously with General Braddock at the battle of Ft. Pitt in 1755
I'm proud to be a member of clan MacInnes. My question; is there a clan MacAounghais? (spelling is off) Since that is our family's orginial name or is that simply a spell how it sounds thing? |

Research on Scottish Battlefields and Clan Involvement |
Hello.
I hope you can help me. I am researching a PhD at the University of Glasgow on the cultural associations and contemporary interpretation of Scottish battles and battlefields. As a Highlander of Highland ancestry, I am particularly keen to include the clans in my research and would like to hear from as many clan members as possible. Is there any way that you could post this request for information on your website, please?
I am interested in a number of areas: do you have any tales about battles or where they were fought, or of ancestors who fought at them?; do you have any other examples of folklore and tradition – songs, poems, place-names?; do you have items connected to a battle that have been passed down in the family? I am also very interested in the clan’s history and if the clan continues to have a bard.
Have you visited battlefields where your ancestors fought? Do you think these sites should be preserved and restored for future generations? Do you take part in commemorative acts to mark the anniversaries of battles important to the clan? I would also like to hear from anyone with an understanding of clan warfare, the tactics etc.
It is important that I hear from as many clan members as possible. I can be contacted at Glasgow University at s.watson.1@research.gla.ac.uk.
Many thanks.

McMaster history linked to MacInnes |
Hello all,
I've been doing some research on a family name. My great great great grandfather was Edwin McMasters Stanton. He was Abraham Lincoln's Sec. of War during the Civil War, as well as Secretary of State. Now my uncle who passed 5 years ago, Richard Stanton Penn was the real family historian. Unfortunately I missed the opportunity to learn what he knew. He was I know proud of our Scottish heritage, when he was re-married later in his life he wore a kilt, and he was an avid bagpiper. While I have traced much of our Stanton and Penn name history, I have just started on the McMaster name. What I have found is that it was very possibly an off shoot from the MacInnes Clan on several places I have looked. Can anybody help me? Uncle Dick was proud of this Scottish connection. A decorated Marine warrior who served in WWII as well as surviving the Chosin Reservoir in Korea. I would like to carry on his pride or it will die. Any help would be greatly appreciated. If I'm on the right track, I will be proud to join. Thanks, |

Hello |
For the past few years I've been keeping up with this webpage, info about the castle... a few years ago, just after my great grandmother passed, I was told of how our family history went back to the MacInnes clan, in Scottland. She told me of "The butter castle" and I couldn't help but laugh about how everyone that was directly related to her, we all love butter, and use butter by the ton in everything! My uncle as a small boy would wrap a stick of butter up with a single slice of bread and eat it... yes,we love butter!! How awesome it is to be able to make contact with people that are related to me by the internet! It's so nice to be able to say hello to ppl I have daydreamed of meeting!!! I hope and pray one day I can meet you all in person! I sure hope your holidays were richly blessed! |

My mother's family was McNinch.Have a census record from 1850 in Chester, South Carolina, but listing has Ireland as place of origin.
I see from this site that the family McNinch may fall within the Clan MacInnes.
Does anyone have any info on the history of the McNinches? Irish? Scots? A little of both?
I've been hiking in each of the last three years through the Highlands and will again be there this coming September. Would love to find home ground if it's possible. Movern? Mull? Antrim?
Thanks for anyone's help. Send me an email if that's the protocol.

Hello All McInnes people |
My family moved to South Wales in 1982 from Cumbernauld, Glasgow. My dad's family are scattered all over, from Scunthorpe to New Zealand. When I got married I refused to change my name and when my daughter was born her surname was McInnes. It is an honour to be part of this site, even just signing the guest book. I am proud to be a McInnes! |

Am I a member of your clan? |
My Mother was a Maginnis. Her father was an Orangmen from Ireland. Could his ancestors have immigrated to Ireland from Scotland and been part of the MacInnes clan making me a member of the MacInnes clan?
Thanks, Tommy |

Hello |
Dear All,
I have doing research for a little while now and today to my SURPRISE I stumbled upon your site. I would like any information to pass along to my children who are finally intrested in our clan. I am 48 years old and only the 3 generation born in America. My grandfather Norman Kenneth McInnis' parents were originally from County Sligo, Ireland. I would very much like to correspond from our clan and to understand more about myself.
God Speed! |
