Jean Alexander Biography

UK Membership Secretary - Jean Alexander
Jean is married to John Alexander who is a McInnes, his mother was Lilian Emily McInnes, and they joined the International Association of Clan Macinnes, 6 years ago, when researching the family tree. Jean is also Scottish descent, her grandfather came from Dunfrieshire in the Lowlands and her maiden name was Scott.   She was born in Liverpool, 65 years ago, and has a twin sister Wendy.   Jean worked at the University of Liverpool for 23 years, as the Campus Recruitment Manager in their Careers Service.  This meant that she was the link between the students and the graduate employers, and she spent those years making good contacts with major recruiters, promoting them on campus and at Careers Fairs.  It was a very interesting post which she enjoyed, but both John and Jean are now retired.   They had spent holidays for 20 years on the beautiful small Isle of Luing, where they decided to retire to, and as the island is 16 miles South of Oban, and in the heart of Argyllshire, it is also in ‘MacInnes Country’.  Jean  is hoping as the new membership secretary in the UK, that she will be able to encourage some local recruitment.

They have one son, Jonathan who lives in Oslo, Norway, with his wife Elise and last year became grandparents to Karen Mathilde, so she is a new descended McInnes.

John and Jean are also committed Christians, and on the Island they are members of the Church of Scotland, where John is a Lay Reader.    They have travelled quite a bit,  John when he left School, was in the Royal Navy for 10 years, and after that he worked for the Home Office Directorate of Telecommunications.  This brought them to work in Qatar in the Arabian Gulf for a year, and eventually stayed there for another 4 years, and returned to the UK 26 years ago.   They have had holidays in the USA, Australia, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Hong Kong, Singapore and China as well as many places in Europe. They now enjoy cruising whenever possible, Jean's favourite past-time!   John and Jean attended the Home Coming Gathering in Scotland last summer, and met some Clan Members from the USA and Australia, and as time goes on they hope to get to know you all the more.
